The Local Defence Force was established in 1940 in response to the war in Europe.
In 1941 the 11th Communications Bn, headquarted in Parnell Square, was established by combining a number of existing LDF Signal companies.
1n 1946 the LDF was disbanded and An Forsa Cosanta Aituil (FCA) was established. The 11th Field Signal Company based in Collins Barracks was formed from members of the 11th Comms Bn LDF.
The unit served in Collins Bks until 1979 when they moved across the Liffey to Cathal Brugha Bks in Rathmines. In 1998 the amalgamation of the Signal Corps and Military Information Systems resulted in a change of name to the 11th Field CIS Coy. This subsequently changes to the 62nd Reserve CIS Coy in 2005 with reorganisation of the FCA into the RDF
The 2013 the reorganisation of the Reserve Defence Forces resulted in the disestablishment of the 62nd Reserve CIS Coy with the remaining members transferring into the reserve platoon of 2 Bde CIS Coy ending over 72 years of having a reserve comms unit in the Eastern Command/Bde.
