History
A Training School, the forerunner of the School of Signals, was set up by General Richard Mulcahy at
Maryborough (now Portlaoise) in late 1921. With the establishment in 1922 of the Wireless section, the first
official signal element in the new Army, the Training School was transferred to the Signal HQ in Portobello (now Cathal Brugha)
barracks. A radio repair shop was established at the same time. With the formation of the Independent Signal
Corps in January 1923 the Training School was redesignated as the Telegraphy, Telephony and Wireless School. In May 1924 it
became the School of Signals.
..
On 1 October 1998, as part of the Army reorganisation the School of Signals became the CIS School part of the Combat Support College.
